Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • ¼ tsp Soda
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 6 tbsp Shortening
  • ¾ cup Buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:

    • Sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt into a bowl.
  2. Cut in Shortening:

    • Add 6 tbsp shortening and mix until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
  3. Add Buttermilk:

    • Add ¾ cup buttermilk and mix lightly with a fork until the mixture clings together to form a ball of soft dough.
  4. Roll and Cut the Dough:

    • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
    • Knead gently, turning 5-6 times.
    • Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick.
    • Cut into 2-inch rounds using a cutter.
  5. Prepare for Baking:

    • Place the rounds on an ungreased baking sheet, 1 inch apart.
    • Pat together the scraps, roll out again, cut, and repeat.
  6. Bake:

    • Bake at 425°F for 10-12 minutes.
