Blue Grass Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients
2 cupsFlour2 tspBaking Powder¼ tspSoda½ tspSalt6 tbspShortening¾ cupButtermilk
Instructions
Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
- Sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt into a bowl.
Cut in Shortening:
- Add 6 tbsp shortening and mix until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
Add Buttermilk:
- Add ¾ cup buttermilk and mix lightly with a fork until the mixture clings together to form a ball of soft dough.
Roll and Cut the Dough:
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Knead gently, turning 5-6 times.
- Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick.
- Cut into 2-inch rounds using a cutter.
Prepare for Baking:
- Place the rounds on an ungreased baking sheet, 1 inch apart.
- Pat together the scraps, roll out again, cut, and repeat.
Bake:
- Bake at 425°F for 10-12 minutes.
